It is straight from handle to shovel end. Having more up-ward tilt to the working end would have made shoveling from flat surface easier. I'd recommend the product.

I wanted a basic shovel to get ash out of my fireplace. Most of the fireplace sets out there are both flimsy and expensive. This shovel is inexpensive and very sturdy. It is a single piece of steel molded into a shovel shape with a nice lip on it as well. I am pretty sure it will last forever. It's just the right size for the job too.

I use this shovel with my woodstove, a Jotul F500. The shovel works as it should, it is very solid and I have no complaints. I would recommend this to a friend.
