I use this super sticky product on my Geiger Tree that periodically gets attacked by Scales. The ants work with the Scales so it's necessary to prevent the ants from crawling up the tree. For this purpose Tanglefoot works great. I took a plastic strip and taped it together around the trunk of the small tree. I then applied the Tanglefoot to that strip. Within a day or two there were no more ants on the tree and the scale infestation went away shortly after.

I had thought this product worked by trapping small insects and by shooing away birds who don't like stepping in the stuff. However, it traps and potentially kills birds. I rescued a woodpecker stuck in the stuff, then tossed out the tube, and cleaned the area where I had originally applied it.

This gooey gel like compound is very effective in trapping nearly everything that drifts by! Difficult to work with however. Avoid getting it on your hands!
