2Great til it breaks!
By RocknR Curlies
My husband had an older Fiskars brush axe that my son and I were using extensively to clear trails. In order to regain ownership of his machete he bought us each a Gerber brush axe because of the nice sheath that came with them for the same price as the Fiskars with the plastic sheath. After no more that half a dozen uses the handle cracked in the middle. Apparently the blade doesn't go very far into the plastic handle which seems a serious design flaw for a tool that is used for heavy whacking. Apparently the new Fiskars are plagued with the same problem. I would think Fiskar/Gerber would find this a liability. The response from customer service was rather automated...."Return it by insured mail and we will decide if it will be replaced or repaired."...even though I enclosed detailed photos of the broken knife handle. With shipping costs and the weight of this product it makes little sense to send them a broken knife that I know cannot be repaired.

4Great multi tool
By BRIAN LENKE
I have two of these, one made by Fiskars(-$10) and this Gerber. They are 95% identical with handle color and the sheath (nylon, on the Gerber) being the only differences. They are not built to fell redwoods, as the poly handle to blade connection will likely fail, but they are a great LIGHT duty camp machete/hatchet/knife. Ive even used them to dig and scrape out a fire pit and to quickly move hot coals into cooking mounds. You really need to wrap the handle in grip tape to keep it from slipping out of sweaty hands, but for a single tool that replaces almost five pounds of pack weight its awesome. As a bonus, its easily sharpened and wicked looking. Just the thing to grab when a zombie horde wanders into your campsite.

5Better than a machete in northern climates
By haans Petruschke
When I saw the hooked blade design of this trimmer I knew it would work better than a tropical style machete here in the north. The springy nature of raspberrys, multiflora rose, and greenbriar make them difficult to cut because it just bends out of the way. The hooked blade catches these stems and really helps to cut them cleanly. The long handle keeps your hands well away from the pickers. The blade goes though trees up to an inch cleanly and with little effort. The weight is just right and I have swung this trimmer for half an hour or longer clearing a trail without fatigue. The sheath is essential for carrying this trimmer into the field. The long handle does get in the way when the sheath is attached to your belt, but positioning it on your back makes this inconsequential. This is a good product that works for it's intended purpose. It is not a universal tool or a survival knife. It is a good blade for clearing trails and cutting back invasive species..
