I really don't understand why people say this fan is "noisy". Yes, it's not quiet... but considering the volume of air this thing pushes through it, it's a justified amount of sound. Once you get ducts\filters or whatever installed, it's no more loud than any other 400 CFM fan. Others might be a little quieter while no accessories are attached but when you want a quality product that will run forever, Hydrofarm is just a no-brainer.Mine has been chugging along, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year(for the last 2 years) and it works just as good as the day I pulled it out of the box.Excellent fan and I have no problems recommending them to anyone who wants to move a fair amount of air.

By T. Guilleaume
Yes, it is loud. I sleep with one running 24/7 about 15 feet from my ears. I put it in the cardboard box it came with, put a few holes in there for 6" ducting, then filled that sucker with packing peanuts and the fan itself is almost silent. The noise is really the reverberations through the ducting, which is still relatively loud, but by no means unbearable. I find it helps me sleep deeply at night and the white noise really could be a lot worse... like loud scratching hard disks... at least this produces a constant noise easy to ignore.Like any white noise, it will interfere with all other sound sources so put speakers or whatever closer to you than the fan or you'll NEVER be able to hear them :)I have heard putting this guy on 1/2 power with a fan controller cuts down 80% of the sound, so if it really is an issue go buy the $30 fan controller amazon is recommending to you lol.

By Jacob
Everyone complaining about the noise are far to picky, its a big fan it pushes alot of air it makes a little noise, you can go pay far more for a 6 inch vortex and itll still be loud. Honestly It's really not that bad, Im in the same room as it, after putting ducting on it it's really not that loud and I have no problem with it. Moves a ton of air, Im using it in my 3x3 tent and am easily able to manage the temps now. I did buy a speed controller with it (The speedster works no problem with this fan) however I end up running it at full blast most of the time anyways. No complaints thus far, would recommend this product.
