Looking for a machete to carry hiking? This is NOT for u. Think condor, cold steel, kabar, etc. They're light and more compact. Only issue w/those is they are CARBON steel. U need to stay on top of ur lubrication duties or apply a coat of duracoat.Want a heavy machete (that doubles as a saw)....that u ONLY plan to carry across ur property? This is it.This is made of STAINLESS steel instead of carbon steel (u can be lazy in ur maintence of this machete). It weighs over 2 lbs and can be swung w/authority from a distance to ur intended target (28" including handle).I wrapped the sheath w/layers of thick duct tape for added safety (in case I trip w/this beast hanging on my shoulder) & put locktite on the bolts/nuts that hold the handle to the full tang.....(both precautionary) ....I never had an issue.Don't carry this hiking, its a little overkill and wouldn't carry comfortably (and u will look like ur carrying a sword)

I did not realize that this was a chinese made item, or I probably would'nt have bought it. I try to only buy American products when I buy an item that I want but can really live without, that being said, it has worked really well for trail clearing and the other few times I've used it.
