I wanted an axe that would do most of the work lightweight,and very durable I only should need to buy one and not be too expensive.I looked at all the fiberglass handled axe at every store I could find and thought about fiberglass splintering I immediately found many reviews that confirmed that. the price for a hickory was close or in a few cases more than fiberglass, then I found the gerber 31-000914 I bought that, a great axe more for camping very nice but after a few swings I knew I needed just a bit more power to split the hardwoods especially the full round oak I wasn't getting the penetration so I then purchased the splitting axe 31-000917 and received in 2 days with free shipping I was happy about that! It took some effort to get it through the knotted full rounds I was working on but destroyed the log with knots in 4 swings it ruptured into pieces. then I split a half log of some really nice oak that I had already split once this thing dropped through that so fast I over estimated the swing and nearly took off a toe! I actually said wow! really be careful until you get used to it it will drop through like a hot knife through butter really! I Was shocked ,it's really sharp and the wedge clears the rest of the axe head so no beat up handle.I can now split that oak with one hand about half choked up on the handle no joke the finish on the heads downright slippery it won't get stuck if you only get partially through and if you do manage to get it stuck a few whacks with a 3lb deadblow rubber mallet will punch that wedge head through.if you look close at the images it has made by fiskars on the head.I don't for see it splintering ever,the handle is hollow making fast accurate swings easier and less effort = more work done at the end of the day this thing so far is incredible I just hope I have this thing many years from now and I believe I will! This is the axe you want!!!

Gerber and Fiskars are the same company and these axes are the same as the models marked with the Fiskars emblem and orange handle. The head of these Gerber axes even says "Fiskars Findland" on them. However, for some reason, these axes are much more money simply because it says "Gerber" on it. The handles and head are EXACLTY the same. I can almost guarentee the steel is identical as well. I wrote a very detailed review on these axes as well to let you know what I think. I gave them a 2.5 star rating due to the low quality steel used.Hope this saves some people money.

I was really surprised on how ez it was to split wood with this axe. It makes it a whole lot easier than my old axe I have. Pretty soon ill be purchasing the gerber hachet.
